Hydrodeoxygenation of benzyl alcohol on transition-metal-containing mixed oxides catalysts derived from layered double hydroxide precursors

M-MgAlO mixed oxide catalysts were prepared by controlled thermal decomposition of layered double hydroxides (LDH) precursors and tested in the hydrodeoxygenation benzyl alcohol. LDH with Mg/Al = 3 10 at. % M respect to cations (M Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu Zn) obtained coprecipitation. A second series copper-containing copper content from 5 20 was also prepared. The solids characterized X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption/desorption, temperature-programmed reduction H2 atmosphere, desorption CO2. influence transition metal and, for samples, loading, reaction temperature, time, amount catalyst pre-treatment on catalytic performance investigated. With 97% alcohol conversion 96% selectivity toluene, Cu15MgAlO is best catalyst. It 1-heptanol.
